We may not know it but asbestos is a part of our everyday lives. It is literally everywhere we go. How? Well asbestos is used as a strengthening material in cement and plastics. It is used in our buildings for sound absorption, fire-proofing and insulation. It is even used in ceiling and floor tiles, paints, coatings and adhesives. Asbestos can even be found in some garden products and crayons.
However, what we do not know is that asbestos can cause cancer, more specifically mesothelioma. But mesothelioma can be treated. Research now show of meditations helping with mesothelioma, thus meditations can be used as an alternative treatment for this rare type of cancer.
But before divulging further in the benefits of meditations in curing cancer, let us first discuss more on the effects of asbestos on cancer. Having been exposed to asbestos at some point in our life will not necessarily cause cancer. It can only cause cancer if we become exposed to it at a regular basis, like if we work in a factory which uses asbestos in producing tiles or insulation materials. Still, even brief exposures can cause asbestos-related diseases which we should be aware of. Difficulty in swallowing, persistent coughing, pain in the chest, loss of appetite and weight loss, are just some of the warning signs. If experiencing such symptoms and we are aware that we have been exposed to asbestos then it would be best to visit a doctor and be cured, because prevention is always better than cure.
Although chemotherapy is the most common cure in any type of cancer, there are alternative treatments that can be used which are not only cheaper but also offer the advantage of lessening the exposure to medicines. Meditation has been used for years as a natural way of strengthening the immune system and relaxing the body. It has even been suggested that meditation can reduce chronic pain, high blood pressure, post traumatic stress and anxiety.
There are several types of meditations and it can be done while sitting, standing or even when walking. It can also be done first by choosing a quiet place without any distractions, sitting down or resting with eyes closed, breathing deeply and letting go of any intruding thought. It can also be achieved by thinking of a pleasant thought or chanting a phrase aloud or even silently. The ultimate goal of meditation is to let go of the world mentally and letting go the thoughts and troubles of the outside world and focusing on a single thing or thought. And with cancer, it can help patients focus on their disease and lessen their symptoms.
Meditation can be done with the help of a professional practitioner that can help guide patients with the meditation process. However, it should be noted that starting meditation does not mean stopping the conventional treatment process. Meditation can be used simultaneously with chemotherapy as a supplement to further combat the disease.
