Mesothelioma is a disease which is caused by asbestos. People who work in an environment where they have more exposure to asbestos, they develop this cancer in them which affects their lungs, heart and stomach as its cells form a complete lining around these organs. The symptoms can be difficulty in breathing, chest pains, nausea and fever. Others include coughing up blood, difficulty in swallowing, anemia and hoarseness in the voice. The disease causes expansion in waist, abdominal pain and pain in the back due to the increase in disease cells in the body. It is difficult to recognize the disease in the initial stages as it might take twenty to fifty years for its diagnosis and when it is diagnosed, it is usually in late stages which are almost impossible to cure.
There are many ways this disease can be prevented. One should wear protective clothing when he has to expose himself in the asbestos work environment. He must change his clothes before working in such an area. Masks for prevention from asbestos are very useful. Researches have shown that people who work in an asbestos work area for long periods of time have reported to be the sufferers from this disease. People like plumbers, builders and electricians are the main patients of this cancer. It is recommended for them that they must wear protective suits before working in such areas. Prevention at home can also be of great help. Some of the home items that mainly include asbestos are attic insulation, wrapping on pipes and electrical wires, popcorn ceilings, floor tiles, drywall and drywall glue, roof shingles and tar, joint compounds etc. Anyone working in his home at these things for renovation purposes must wear protective suitings. Mostly, the houses built before 1980’s have more asbestos risks than the houses built these days.
A question that arises in mind about this cancer is that does it help to be a believer when fighting mesothelioma? Yes, it does help. One has to have faith in God if he or she is suffering from this disease. If the disease is diagnosed in later stages then it is difficult to treat it but there are some facts that show if one is a true believer of God, then it would be cured for sure. Once a patient of mesothelioma, whose stomach was affected by the cancer, was brought to a church prayer despite her really bad condition. She looked nine months pregnant as her stomach was filled with fluids caused by the cells of mesothelioma. She believed that God would never refuse her prayers. After the prayer, she noticed gradual improvement in her condition and in a few months she was all well. Then, she was discharged from the cancer hospital.
